Painting down the Millennia

Each theme comes with technical lessons including understanding form and tone, color theory, palette selection and mixing, heightening with whites and glazing. There will be an assignments in recreating a portrait from each era. The course will also be peppered with art history nuggets which set the scene for the period. For the final assignment participants will paint their own portrait in any way they choose. By the end of the 2 week intensive, participants will have experienced painting the human face in key historic painting styles, painting in oils and water based media. Some prior knowledge of painting and or drawing is a bonus.

“The head is the crown of the body and is a key signifier of identity in all its nuance. The course will enable participants to sculpt the skull, face, hair and neck through the medium of paint to their own ends!”
